Creating Art That Commands Attention
Painting “Finding Peace”
Artist Statement
Shannon Rios
I'm a mixed media oil painter from Southern Idaho with a cubist impressionist realism style. I've been painting since I was 15, formally trained with an AA and BA in fine art, and after 40 years of treating my gift like a hobby, I'm finally here, fully & unapologetically. I use color the way some people use music, to pull an emotion out of you, any emotion, as long as you feel something. My work is built on structure; golden ratio, color theory, light and shadow ; but the music in my studio loosens all of that into something alive. I paint strength in its many forms: women who know who they are, horses, bulls, dancers, landscapes that feel like they're breathing. I'm sarcastic and warm, equally at home in a crowd or alone in my studio for hours, and I love hard; God, my family, my craft, the people who stop in front of a painting and grab someone's arm. I create a mood and let the work do the talking. I'm 56 yrs, experienced & I've been through it, and I still have a lot to say though my work

Our Vision
Shannon & Reuben Rios are building a modern West. Biblical Figures, horses, dancers, landscapes, desert light and women who hold their own; drawn in geometry, layered in transparent oil and colored so the room changes when you walk into it. Made in Southern Idaho, for the homes, galleries and collections that want something made by a human hand and that hold real weight .
