What to Expect
Five hours, one canvas, and a whole lot of color. Come as you are. No experience is needed, and you don’t have to be “good” at this. The music will be up, the coffee will be on, and you’ll be painting alongside people who are just as excited (and maybe a little nervous) as you are.
This isn’t a paint-by-the-numbers class where everyone leaves with the same picture. We’ll start by choosing what you want to paint and sketching it out. Then I’ll guide you as you build your painting in acrylic, layer by layer, trying out brushwork, texture, and bold color along the way. Ten people can start with the same idea and leave with ten completely different paintings, and that’s the point.
As the day goes on, things settle into a quieter focus. We’ll slow down and look closely at how painters see color, why some compositions hold together and others fall apart, and how light and shadow give a flat surface real depth. By the afternoon, you’ll stop worrying about getting it “right” and start trusting your own eye.
Groups are small, so you get real one-on-one guidance, not just a demo. All materials are included, and because we paint in acrylic, your painting will be dry and ready to take home when the day is done. You’ll leave with an original painting that’s completely yours, and probably a little paint somewhere you didn’t mean to put it

Private Painting Classes with Shannon Rios
What to Expect
Step into the studio and paint alongside four decades of experience. In private classes, you'll work in rhythm with your own pace; no competition, no compromise. We'll explore the foundations that drive all strong paintings: color mixing that actually works, how light and shadow create drama, the geometry that holds a composition together.
You'll start with graphite, building structure and intention before a single brush touches canvas. From there, we layer, spray paint/acrylic inks then transparent washes that let the underpainting speak, building depth and luminosity that feels alive on the canvas. It's the same process Shannon uses for her signature work, adapted to where you are right now.
The studio runs on music & positivity. It's a tool that loosens everything, your hand, your thinking, the fear. You'll work in a space built for focus, where the goal is the work itself, not the result.
This is painting as a conversation between you and the canvas. You'll leave understanding not just what you made, but why it works.
Class Options
Private or Group Class: $30 per person, per hour. Come one-on-one, or bring up to 8 people for a paint and sip, birthday, or girls' day in the studio. Materials provided.*
*Includes oil paints, brushes, canvases, and studio materials. Students bring their own sketchbook or graphite pencils if preferred.
How to Book
Classes run in 1-hour blocks on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays, 9am–5pm, in the studio in Southern Idaho's Magic Valley. Fridays & Saturdays from Nov 6 – Dec 19 are reserved for my holiday open studio. Need a later time? Call me. I try to be flexible.
