It rests on a belief that came out of Indigenous Mexico long before the Spanish arrived and later folded into the Catholic calendar: that death ends a life but not a relationship.
“Night Bloom Catrina” I painted this portrait to portray a figure who balances strength and reflection., Vivid flowers and intricate blue markings frame a steady, intense gaze; deep cobalt set against fiery orange and crimson creates a deliberate contrast. Layered lines and textured brushwork were used to build a raw, emotional presence that I wanted to make palpable.
